Portmeirion Compleat Angler
Introduced in 1980. Portmeirion's Compleat Angler collection sets the table for the avid outdoor recreation lover with elegant tastes. Impeccably crafted from premium earthenware, the line celebrates an angler's catch in exceptionally detailed images drawn from a 19th-century British book of game fish. Showcasing salmon, alpine char, trout, perch, sea trout, and great lake trout, the designs feature botanical borders and shoreline backdrops. Made in England and painted by hand, Compleat Angler dishes look handsome on display as well as in use. They are also safe in the dishwasher, microwave, freezer, and oven. Designed for daily use as well as entertaining, the extensive collection is microwave and dishwasher safe.
Susan Williams-Ellis felt that the pieces in this range would make perfect gifts for men — they were "not too vulgar." The pattern was based on original paintings taken from the book The Compleat Angler — British Fishes by M. J. Lydon, first published in 1879.
