Microwave Cooking for One by Marie T SmithShopping for Formal Dinnerware
Royal Doulton ChallinorThe epitome of elegance, the Challinor pattern displays classic 19th-century motifs from Royal Doulton's early, and now archived, sketchbooks. The design is timeless but never plain as it uses rich cobalt hues on a translucent white background with shimmering 22-karat gold edging. The dinner plate, side plate, and tea saucer feature a cobalt border decorated with an embossed fleur-de-lys print. The salad/dessert plate and tea cup show a more involved white and gold fleur-de-lys border design with scrollwork and medallions on a thick cobalt border. All pieces bear gold edging imprinted with cobalt blue squares for added depth. The slight variation in styling creates a dazzling effect on a formal table when staple pieces and accent pieces are set together. Challinor dinnerware is made of bone china — fine china that has had bone ash added to the clay to produce a true white color — which is considered the strongest and most prestigious type due to its eighteenth century English origins. All pieces carry the Royal Doulton stamp and most are safe in the dishwasher on low temperatures. Not safe for use in the microwave. Royal Doulton Challinor was introduced in 2001.
