Setting the Table: Glassware

Spiegelau Glassware

Spiegelau's Vino Grande Collection

Several years ago, an article in Wine Spectator magazine noted the importance of a high-quality glass for improving a wine's looks and enhancing its bouquet. However, the magazine lamented, many of the attributes that increase the beauty and value of the glass actually obscure the wine. Spiegelau's Vino Grande series is part of a connoisseur line designed specifically for wine lovers. The thin rim means less distraction from the taste and texture of the wine. Tap the glass gently with your fingernail and you'll hear the distinctive ping of fine crystal. These glasses are billed as dishwasher-safe and are sturdy enough for everyday use, as proven by their use in restaurants. Still, we'd recommend hand washing.

Spiegelau Vino Grande Collection 15-Ounce Red Wine Glasses

Red Wine Glass Set of SixThis set of simple but elegant crystal wine glasses would grace the simplest outdoor picnic as well as a multi-course formal meal in the dining room. The glasses are 9 inches tall, 2½ inches across the top, 3 inches across the wider portion of the tulip shape, and has a capacity of 15 ounces. They have very thin stems and wide, stable bottoms that won't tip easily — a design bonus, since no one likes trying to clean red wine out of a tablecloth. A set of these glasses would make a lovely housewarming or wedding gift, along with a select bottle from your favorite winery.

Spiegelau Vino Grande Collection Burgundy Wine Glasses

Burgundy Wine Glass Set of SixThis glass, which measures 8½ inches high, features a wide bowl and narrow rim ideal for Burgundy wines. Like all red-wine glasses, it should be filled only one-third of the way so the wine can be swirled to release its full flavor.

Spiegelau Vino Grande Collection Riesling Glasses

Riesling Glass Set of SixThis slim, elegant glass measures 8 inches high, and has a capacity of 8 ounces. The graceful stem is long enough to keep the warmth of your hand from destroying the crisp flavor of the wine, but not so long that it unbalances the glass.

Spiegelau Vino Grande Collection Highball Glasses

Highball GlassThis tall, narrow glass is fit for serving everything from gin and tonics to cherry colas. Tap the glass gently with your fingernail and you'll hear the distinctive ping of fine crystal. This glass measures 5¾ inches high, with an elegantly tapered top, and has a capacity of 11 ounces.

Spiegelau Vino Grande Collection Champagne Flute

Their shape enhances the aromas, flavors, and sparkle of the champagne. They are durable, dishwasher-safe, and retain their clarity well. And they're color-stable for guaranteed brilliance. The only thing missing with these flutes is the bubbly. This glass measures 9-1/8 inches high, and has a capacity of 9 ounces.

Spiegelau Decanter

1-Liter DecanterWith a visually dramatic appeal, this 1-liter Spiegelau Vino Grande decanter brings a striking Italian élan to your table while also helping your favorite wines breath. The decanter includes a large, broad reservoir which rises upwards and tapers to a long, slender neck, providing increased oxygen exposure to wine, enhancing the both the flavor and bouquet of even the most delicious grape pressings. Graceful for a decanter of its size, it holds a standard wine bottle with room to spare.
