Welcome to the forum!
The
Delicious Apple pattern is a retired pattern from the 1950s. It is listed at the main site for those who already have a collection and are looking for additional or replacement pieces. I fear it would be very expensive and quite time consuming for you to be able to start a collection from scratch and find all the pieces you need.
As to whether or not it is safe for use in the microwave, that depends on whether or not there is any lead in the material used to make the pieces. I am not sure if patterns produced in the 1950s by Villeroy & Boch contained lead. The best way to tell, is to take a piece from the pattern perform the
Microwave Safety Test. As you know, microwaves were not in use in most homes like they are today, so safety for microwave use was not a consideration back then.
Most
Current Villeroy & Boch Patterns are safe for use in the microwave, except those trimmed in precious metals. Those patterns are clearly identified as not being safe for use in the microwave at the main website. If you are looking to start a new Villeroy & Boch dinnerware collection with currently available patterns, then you might like
Villeroy & Boch Cascara featuring a variety of fruits in an extremely vivid, almost three-dimensional way, or
Villeroy & Boch Cottage featuring blueberries, blackberries and cherries.
If you prefer a pattern that only features apples, then you might want to consider another brand.
Franciscan Ware Apple looks very similar to
Villeroy & Boch Delicious Apple and has been around since the 1940s. I wouldn't be surprised if Franciscan Ware Apple was the inspiration for the Villeroy & Boch version.
