Microwave Cooking for One by Marie T Smith

Microwave Cooking Tips

Cooking A Meal

In microwave cooking, dishes are cooked one at a time, set aside, then popped back into the oven individually just before serving until piping hot. I have found that cooking dishes in a particular order gets the best results. I cook starchy vegetables first, green or yellow vegetables second, and meat, fish or poultry last. To refer back to recipes I cook as a meal, I use a set of bookmarks labeled:

  • Starchy Vegetable (potatoes, noodles or rice)
  • Green Vegetable
  • Meat, Fish or Chicken
  • Dessert

You can make your own set of bookmarks and use them for ready reference to flip back and forth between recipes. Or you can print the PDF of a set of bookmarks below on card-stock paper. Be sure to select "Actual Size" instead of "Fit" before pressing the print button.

If you are using a mobile device that will not allow you to scroll the pdf, you can view the PDF of the Bookmarks directly.

It appears you do not have a PDF plugin for this browser. This is not a problem. You can view the PDF of the Bookmarks directly in your browser.

I am thrilled! There are many more recipes then I expected. I am very excited since my husband often works late and I end up with sandwiches rather then making myself something to eat.. —Barbara Andersen, New York
